Title: Data Analyst Apprenticeship

Reports to: Data Scientist

ENGINE Media Exchange (EMX)  is a leading marketing technology company, leveraging a patented, end-to-end tech stack purpose-built to meet the demands of today’s digital marketplace. The company creates both open and closed-loop solutions designed to unify advertisers, platforms and publishers across digital media channels — including Advanced TV, Video, Display, Search & Social.

What we’re looking for?

We’re looking for someone excited to get their foot in the door at a growing programmatic advertising company that’s changing the way clients and advertisers manage their advertising space. Our Data Analysts love numbers and are curious about all things digital. We’re looking for two great new hires who are willing to learn all things data and find a great, structured way to accelerate their learning. At EMX we live our values in all that we do and so we’re looking for people who are:

Connected - To each other, to society, to culture, to each client.

  • You will need to be reasonably numerate and be driven to learn about data, our clients and how we help their business.

  • You are a good communicator, enjoy being in a team and effectively working alongside others.

  • You are interested in technology or data and have a curiosity about how this can change the world for the better.

Original To stand out, to create, to re-define, to re-imagine.

  • You might know some basic code but you don’t need to at the start! By the end of this program, we will train you in the Python and SQL you need to search and manipulate your data.

  • You may know a little Excel, Adobe or Powerpoint, and by the end of this program you will have honed the skills to effectively present your data. We’ll figure out what you know already and teach you what you need to become an expert.

Brave - To be free, to tell it like it is, to be yourself.

  • You may not have the skills, training or experience to do this job yet, but you can succeed if you  have the right mix of willingness, aptitude and are excited to commit to this journey.

  • You aren’t afraid to ask questions.

  • You must be ready to learn, make mistakes and learn some more. We can teach you the skills you need to succeed.

How the Apprenticeship works:

As an apprentice you will learn the skills for the job while you are working.  It’s a full time paid job, with 20% of your time spent learning and practicing the skills needed to succeed.

The apprenticeship is a 12-month program focussed on Data Analytics.

There aren’t any tests. It is a competency based program, which means that you need to be able demonstrate you can do the necessary skills for the job.

There is a brilliant training program included in this job, giving you 4 hours of technical skills training each week, plus an hour with an instructor who can help you make sense of things.  There is also an hour or so each week of business & professional skills, including things like industry knowledge, campaign operations skills, communication skills and much more.  To help keep it all on track, the apprentice will have an hour each week with a personal coach – to help build confidence, get the most out of the program and grow into the role.

Day to day, an apprentice’s responsibilities are very similar to a regular professional.  As a data analyst apprentice, your role is to gather and inspect the company’s data and extract essential information to support various decision-making processes. As an apprentice, you get to learn this while you work.

As a data analyst apprentice you will learn skills such as analyzing data sets, using data systems securely, applying statistical methodologies, and visualizing data through infographics, graphs, or tables.  The candidate is not expected to have knowledge of these skills or tools before the program.
